Week 1: Concept, Story, and Puppet Design

This week's post will cover the beginning stages of story/concept/puppet design!

The story team spent some time on Thursday brainstorming over character and story ideas. Here are a few of their sketches:

Our director had some notes for some of those sketches as well:

Story team member Emily A. briefly described the basic premise of the story/main character here:
"As a group we did come up with the idea of this crazy eccentric character who is a total mess but still remains confident in himself. He goes around campus showing the viewer the mains parts and focusing on the areas that are major specific. And while giving us a “tour” he proceeds to mess nearly everything up in a comical way. He could turn the lights on in the dark room, runs into someone carrying an ID model, ruin someones painting or sculpture. All the while describing the different majors and facilities our school has to offer."

Kandice S. and Jennifer G. will be constructing the puppets for this project. Here are some of their sketches and ideas!

by Kandice S.
Kandice described her sketches on her blog like this: "I made some head, eyes and nose shape sketches for the puppets. Kevin and Don said they would maybe want to mix and match so I made separates."

by Jennifer G.
Though she hasn't been given any final character designs, Jennifer described the construction of the puppet like this: "All of these puppets have the same design concept with structure with the mouth and hand controls for the arms as you can see."

Jennifer has more sketches/ideas on her blog.

A great first fews days of brainstorming! Check this blog in the coming weeks for more updates on the other aspects of this project.

  1. These look fun! You might even try making some really crazy puppets with multiple eyes and things. Just a thought.
